John Denver, a singer-songwriter of Colorado who specialized in folk pop music touched the hearts of millions. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and moved to Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be inducted. Today, he is the international face of Colorado. When I travel, I always come across someone on the opposite part of the globe, someone who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the first thing out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a Solo Artist following his time with small folk groups. The song was written with Bill Danoff. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the track, however Denver recognized that the song could turn into a hit once he heard an earlier version. The song was first recorded a few weeks after the Washington D.C. performance.
